Osceola Teen Leadership

Unfortunately, due to the economy and lack of funding, the
2011 Teen Leadership Class has been cancelled.

Since 1996, the program has provided a forum for incoming High School Juniors and Seniors to meet face to face with present community leaders to learn about opportunities for involvement in the political and growth process of Osceola County and is a partnership with Valencia Community College, the Osceola County District Schools and Community Vision.

Teen Leadership provides 20 to 30 teens from all Osceola County High Schools, hands-on, experimental learning curriculum to promote leadership and service to our community; helping to develop tomorrow's leaders today.

Sophomores and juniors receive a rare and useful Summer School education program interacting with current leaders while building on their own capacities.

Valencia Community College recognizes the value of Teen Leadership by offering duel enrollment credits upon completion (3 college credit hours).

The program is organized and managed by a volunteer committee and is offered free to all qualified students (students must have a 3.0 G.P.A. in order to qualify for this program).

The class uses the book by Steven Covey, "Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens".

Classes meet weekly during the summer (usually every Wednesday).

As part of the curriculum, the students choose a career and we find someone in the community for them to job shadow.

This past summer we had 34 students participating.

The 90% of the graduates go on to join the Osceola Teen Alliance who serves as valuable, community volunteer resources.

Osceola Teen Alliance this past year established the Youth as Resources, organized a Middle School Dance, collected clothing and can goods for the homeless, hosted the successful High School Faculty & Staff Basketball game and helped with several community events and festivals.
